We discussed in class how it’s hard to have a concrete plan for this project, but I do have some loose ideas and themes I hope to use as prompts when working with my images. My two main ideas are maps and towns, and I may or may not combine them. What I like about using maps in my generation is that maps have a lot of information on them, and they are mostly human made, so asking AI to create maps has inevitably resulted in some eerie looking varieties of maps. I want to mess around more with the prompts I use, because so far AI gives back maps that look like poorly constructed world maps and I want ones that look less realistic. Since AI can’t generate real text, I find it really interesting how it tries to make “text” looking shapes instead. My other idea is to generate and glitch fake towns. When we first did this lab, I asked AI to make “paper towns” and “ghost towns” but I’m now leaving towards trying to make the images look too hyper realistic and perfect, so much so that it’s unsettling. My favorite concept to create with AI is asking it to imitate real life in a way that isn’t possible, so I want to continue experimenting with that and also combine glitches to enhance the effect of the images. I also really want to revisit making fake glitches with GIFs and making a variety of “glitches” in photoshop.
