Reading: Why This Artist Isn’t Afraid of AI’s Role in Art

As someone who has always been on the cautious side of AI, this article was really fascinating to me. I wanted to take on a new perspective and see what artists who actively use AI think and what their processes are. In this article, photographer Dahlia Dreszer uses AI in a collaborative format to enhance her work. She talks about how her collaboration with AI is a long process than many don't understand, and how she truly believes nature, art, and technology can coexist nicely. I really enjoyed her sharing her perspective, and the images from her exhibition looked really well done too. I like the way she uses AI as a tool but isn't fully dependent on it. My favorite part of her exhibition is the fact that she mimics the AI back in her pieces, so that they all look like AI but some of them were created without the use of AI. Another interesting aspect of her writing is her use of an AI 'clone' that guides viewers in her work. My greatest concern with the direction of AI in art is that it will become indistinguishable when AI is used. However, after reading this article I feel a lot more open to AI use and as though I understand the perspective of AI artists a lot more. As long as the artist is blatantly open about AI as they would any other medium or tool, I think it could potentially be an important new technology for artists to experiment with.
