For my zine, I really want to incorporate the art I began to experiment with last year. For the first time I really let myself go through the trial and error process with different paints and designs. In my zine, I want to use watercolors- like, softer tones. I recently re-watched the 1951 Disney film Alice in Wonderland, and I absolutely love the amount of detail in the illustrations and the way they force the viewer to look closer. I especially liked the garden where all the flowers are singing. Each type of flower is personified in a way that makes sense while also being humorous. My favorite one is probably the “butterfly” with buttered bread for wings. I want to create something that looks like a collage, with different textures and colors that fit together in an intentional way to tell a story. One thing I considered is using newspaper, or text of some kind as a background, but I am not sure how to incorporate that into my other ideas. One thing I love to do in art is give inanimate objects faces and expressions. I think it could be fun to do this but in a way where the faces aren't noticeable at first, but the more closely you look the more you see them. Along the same lines I’m thinking about using some sort of optical illusion to trick the viewer as well. For the story, I am thinking of a journey through many different scenes and environments, maybe having a particular character travel through all of the pages.
